As an illustrator and designer, I have been connected to marketing in some way for a significant part of my professional career.
Yet, the place that has had the biggest impression on me was Lanzarote Island, one of the Canary Islands. There, one man, César Manrique, led the entire "visual communication" of the land and decided that no advertising would be allowed on the streets of Lanzarote. He also mandated that all the houses must be painted in just one color, with their frames limited to one of three colors depending on the location. These are just a few of the many rules. Believe it or not, as we all seek freedom and ways of self-expression, this place is so beautiful, so visually calm and serene, that it's a visual paradise on earth.
